Too often, insurance agents take only basic client information to seek quotes. But to obtain the best coverage at the best price, physicians need a strong advocate willing to listen, learn and communicate unique circumstances to underwriters.
In one case, a medical practice, which had recently paid a $1-million claim, faced dramatic increases at renewal. After some research, I discovered that the payment followed a death outside the control of the physicians. Although a jury might have disagreed, I found a carrier that understood and offered concessions to what would have been catastrophic increases. Within three years, I had prices fully restored to their original levels.
When evaluating a broker, ask some basic questions: How often do you meet? How often are you in contact? How many pricing options have you been offered? Are you aware of every available discount, such as seminars, risk management practices, loss-free status and higher deductibles?
Every physician should enter a policy renewal with a strategy lead by a proactive, knowledgeable agent willing to go to bat for them. I work hard for my clients, and that work is visible in every one of my transactions.
